MDFF 2021 - Call For A Poetic City
Poetic is Political. Horse-riding in a city center isn't a touristic endeavor, it undertakes a prominent role at the community level. Let us learn kindness.
Interview with Director/Producer Elisabeth Felson
Congratulations! Why did you make your film?
I live in Bayswater, London, nearby Ross Nye stables and always found sticking the surreal presence of horses in the heart of a city. As I got to know the stables, I discovered that far from being a touristic asset, they had a unique role at the local community level... I feel that it is a filmmaker's gift to show the true nature of things that may go unnoticed otherwise.
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
This film is a family program to enjoy by all ages and watch together. It is an optimistic take on our society and the importance of Nature in urban settings.
How do personal and universal themes work in your film?
Call For a Poetic City is the story of a family from Melbourne who emigrated to the UK and created Ross Nye Stables. The horses do clash with urban modern life, and all the same teach the Londoners kindness and mixity.
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development?
There was a long editing searching for the language of the film, accentuating images instead of words and using Cinematography.
What type of feedback have you received so far?
The stables loved the film. Families like to watch the film altogether. People are surprised by the content. The film seems to have a poetic impact as hoped.
Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?
Not really! As a creative work of art a film sets its own rules and language. Every film is different just like every book is different.
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
I am always happy to reach a wider audience.
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?
Distributors, buyers.
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
I hope that people will realize how precious it is to protect Nature, and keep it in urban centers.
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?
Shouldn't the Council defend and help these business who are so important to the local community?
Would you like to add anything else?
"In all things of Nature there is the marvelous"
Aristotle
What other projects are the key creatives developing or working on now?
I am shooting my second feature documentary in... two weeks now! Wish me luck!
