Culver City Film Festival 2019 – Some Like It Boring
When a bored 18-year-old convinces a sophisticated man to buy her a bottle of wine, he fuels her dreams of leaving her ordinary life.
Interview with Writer/Director Angelina Feronti
Congratulations! Why did you make your film?
I wanted to revisit a very specific longing I felt when I was eighteen.
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
This short film might speak to anyone who grew up in a smaller town or city and longed for something more, while simultaneously enjoying the smaller moments and friendships of their current reality.
How do personal and universal themes work in your film?
This film was pretty specific to myself as a 18 year-old so personal themes include suburban boredom and longing, toying with strangers, and having big dreams, which all tie into the larger theme of expectations.
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development?
The script started off as a subtext exercise for a screenwriting class and over a few months, evolved from there.
What type of feedback have you received so far?
It was nice to have viewers tell me they remembered feeling that way in high school as well. It was nice to have viewers tell me they remembered feeling that way in high school as well.
Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?
People of all ages have told me they understood the exact feeling of the main character, which has surprised me.
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
I am grateful for any type of visibility.
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?
We're eager to talk with anyone interested in amplifying our film.
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
This is my first proper short film, so I am just happy to share it.
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?
Why do some people like it boring?
Would you like to add anything else?
Thanks for sharing our film!
What other projects are the key creatives developing or working on now?
The cinematographer/editor, Matt Hanisch, will be editing a USC senior capstone project and the producer/sound designer, Ashley Agren, will be DPing a USC graduate capstone project in the Spring.
