Lady Filmmakers Festival 2019 – Evelyn & Elmer
A sentimental tale of an elderly man who goes to a riverbank to scatter the ashes of his late wife and encounters a little girl who makes him realize that nothing ever really dies.
Interview with Writer/Director/Producer Nadia Jordan
Congratulations! Why did you make your film?
I wanted to create a poignant yet uplifting, visually striking film, that would be complemented by music to stir the emotions. The location was chosen for its beauty and this was enhanced by artistic cinematography and rich vibrant color.
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
It's heartfelt, touching and, yes it's a bit of a tear-jerker, but the relationship between Elmer and the little girl is so adorable to watch. And the music is great! There are two songs by British female duo Unsung Lilly, and the closing title track "I Remember" is just so perfect!
How do personal and universal themes work in your film?
I'm a very spiritual person and the theme of this film is in line with my own belief. It's hard to say too much without giving the story away!
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development?
This was actually a fairly quick process. Only two months from writing the script to completing the film. I had a very strong vision for this film and knew exactly what I wanted right from the start, even down to the color and style of the little girl's dress!
What type of feedback have you received so far?
Everyone tells me they cried. But in a good way!
Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?
I've actually been pleased with the feedback, as the film is obviously moving people and that was my intention!
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
A lot of amazing films are created and not nearly enough get the exposure they deserve. This especially applies to shorts, so this is a great platform to promote the film to a wider audience.
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
For people to feel moved and uplifted and, for some, to really get them thinking about spirituality.
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?
Do we truly never really die?
What other projects are the key creatives developing or working on now?
I have two features in development. Comedy/dramas and great stories with strong female leads. Both of them have had an empowerment theme and a positive message, which I'm passionate about.
