Congratulations! Why did you make your film?

Thank you! As our first short  film we wanted to make a film that was unique to our voices as young women with a light and comedic tone. Because life is funny. As young women in the industry we wanted to make a film with a real and flawed female protagonist and explore themes of a young woman's self-value.

Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?

I think that audiences can find a bit of themselves in the protagonist Edith- she's a little bit worse for wear, and is making all the mistakes in her love life and career that I think we can all relate to. Obviously in real life you can't order yourself a motivational clone- but what if you could? 'Double' is a funny and heartwarming, feel good film.

How do personal and universal themes work in your film?

'Double' is a film that is very close to me personally, paralleling some mistakes and phases I've been through as a young woman. The themes are quite universal, exploring what part of ourselves make up our own self-worth, and what parts are actually important.

How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development?

The concept of 'Double' was an idea I first had during high school, and initially was just so I could show off the my new 'split-screen' skills I had discovered in Adobe Premiere. Since then, I had returned to the idea as a young woman who had made all the typical young-person mistakes you can make, and used my experiences to develop it into the story that it is today.

Double - Edith and Edith Too meet for the first time.

What type of feedback have you received so far?

Fortunately, mostly positive. We were surprised to hear that a diverse audience found it relatable, and not just young women. We've been told it's an original, quirky film with genuine characters.

Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?

As our first film, we weren't expecting much but have been pleasantly surprised by the positive feedback- especially when it's come from people of all different backgrounds and ages. We didn't think so many people could relate to Edith.

What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?

Hopefully for people to become familiar with our film, and possibly see it one day. We think that 'Double' is a light-hearted comedy that can be enjoyed by a general audience. The cast and crew worked tirelessly on this film, and we hope from film, we can endeavor to develop more films together in the future. We are hoping that this brings a bigger audience to our film as the majority of the key creatives are women and we believe it is important to diversify this industry.

Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?

As we are starting our film festival circuit, we would love film festival directors to come on board so we can have 'Double' screen at festivals around the world, reaching a wide audience. We would also like to develop 'Double' into a feature film and have previously received feedback that the story has this potential so we like to hear from anyone who would be interested in this.

What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?

We would like people to just enjoy 'Double', have a laugh and perhaps see a little bit of themselves in Edith.

Double - Post fight.

What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?

Does 'Double' accurately represent a young women and her struggles in this day and age? Or is the character of Edith much like the rest of the roles that women are typically reduced to in films?

Would you like to add anything else?

For anyone at the Cannes Film Festival, 'Double' will be screening in the Short Film Corner as part of the Griffith Film School Showcase on the 24th of May at 11:30am.

What are the key creatives developing or working on now?

We (the producer and director) are currently developing our next short film to begin production at the end of 2017.

Interview: May 2017
