Austin Film Festival - Homestate
A down and out brother shows up announced, altering the routine of his sister's family.
Interview with Writer/Producer/Actor Blaise Miller
Congratulations! Why did you make your film?
Thank you! We wanted to tell a story about the inherent flaws of the human experience and how they can be passed down through family relations.
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
If you are looking for a film with heart that strays from the formula this is your movie.
How do personal and universal themes work in your film?
Our film is about ties that bond a family and the realization that you may not know the ones closest to you as well as you think.
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development and production?
We wrote the script over the course of a year and then moved right into production. Since the four lead actors (Miller, Ferrell, Love and Hickey) were living as a family on set for 2 1/2 months we were able to interject some realistic nuances that came about from that process.
What type of feedback have you received so far?
Audiences have been very receptive to our story and we have received several stellar reviews that compared Homestate to other family dramas like Dan in Real Life and Home For The Holidays. Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?
We have really been blown away by the response to the film and it has reaffirmed why we wanted to tell this story.
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
Our hope is to reach a wider audience and bring as much attention to the film as possible.
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?
We are hoping to gain interest from a distribution outlet that believes in this film.
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
We want to affect a wide array of people in a positive way. As far as a reception, we would settle for a small parade.
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?
How well do you really know your family?
Would you like to add anything else?
Homestate was made entirely in Austin, TX and we couldn't have done it without everyone that said "yes" to being a part of it.
What are the key creatives developing or working on now?
We are all hoping to be in production soon because there is no better place to be.
Interview: October 2016
