Red Flags
Sometimes we can miss the signs around us, or maybe we see what we want?
Interview with Director/Producer Lain Ewing
Congratulations! Why did you make your film?
Two reasons, I needed to create a third film so I could submit it to the WB directing program and I was telling my friend a dating story as it was coming out of my mouth I could hear the Red Flags so I thought it would be a funny concept to create.
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
I think we have all had dating woes and this film pokes fun of them. I think it is relatable to anyone who had that one person that they know is a giant red flag.
How do personal and universal themes work in your film?
The majority of my work is based on personal experience. I think someway I work through my own things through film.
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development?
For Red Flags specifically not much. It is so short there was not much room for that but in a good way. In general, I think scripts have many drafts and reading a story is so different from seeing it on the screen.
What type of feedback have you received so far?
Good feedback. Everyone who has watched it found it relatable and fun. I made this film to poke fun at myself and what we can choose to ignore.
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
To add more women to my creative network and hopefully, my film will make some people laugh.
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?
I would like to meet a producer to work with in the future. I would like to create new relationships with Film Festival Directors and distributors.
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
This film is a short comedy. I hope to connect with viewers in a relatable way to the perils of dating in LA.
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?
What do you do when you finally notice the red flags?
What other projects are the key creatives developing or working on now?
I am working on my next short Performace Review, a hilarious story about an assistant who accidentally consumes a pot brownie and has to lead a meeting. I am working on applying to the Half Initiative with Ryan Murphy and the Disney Directing Training Program.
