Maceration
Sideways meets the Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Interview with Writer/Director/Producer/Editor/Actor Clayton Holmes
Congratulations! Why did you make your film?
Because every filmmaker has to make a no-rules, no holds barred, completely nonsensical film once in their lives.
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
Because you have never seen anything this insane and you never will again.
Maceration
How do personal and universal themes work in your film?
Everybody wants to fall in love but nobody wants to fall into a vat of blood wine so this film explores the possibility of both happening at the same time.
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development?
Every time there was a roadblock in production, I wrote my way out of it. Every time there was a roadblock in post-production, I composited my way out of it.
Maceration
What type of feedback have you received so far?
Some people have told me it's the most original film they've ever seen and some people refuse to talk to me at all now.
Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?
It has reaffirmed my belief that you should only make films for yourself.
Maceration
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
I would like as many people as possible to watch this film because everybody needs more silliness in their lives.
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?
I need help from anybody and everybody who is good at promotion/business because I am hopeless when it comes to that sort of thing.
Maceration
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
Laughs, gasps and dropped jaws.
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?
What does maceration mean?
Behind the scenes of Maceration - Clay directs Kenny Lush
Would you like to add anything else?
Thanks for getting in touch and be sure to have a glass of wine when you view the film (along with a book on wine terminology).
What other projects are the key creatives developing or working on now?
I'm hoping to start production on my second feature film in mid-2024.

About the writer, director and producer:
CLAYTON HOLMES is an independent filmmaking machine. A graduate of the UBC film program and Capilano VFX, Clay takes the DIY mantra as far as possible on every project until he collapses. From building the physical wine barrels in pre-production to blowing them up in post, his latest film Maceration exemplifies filmic ownership (for better or worse).
