Lady Filmmakers Festival 2018 - I'm here
After the storm, survivors journey to a place hoping to speak to people they lost, one last time.
Interview with Writer/Director/Producer Rebecca Shapiro and Producer Lea-Beth Shapiro
Congratulations! Why did you make your film?
REBECCA: Thank you! I heard about a phone booth in the desert and I was intrigued about what I could do with that.
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
LEA-BETH: As an audience member, I find the film moving every time I watch it. I can find something to relate to in each of these character’s journeys. I think that is one of the reasons we watch films, to be moved.
How do personal and universal themes work in your film?
Death. Love and Loss are about as universal as it gets.
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development?
REBECCA: This is pretty much the story we set out to tell. I was determined to keep the script and setting manageable. So, once I chose the what and where, I was able to focus on the characters.
What type of feedback have you received so far?
Lady Filmmakers 2018 is our World Premiere screening.
Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?
With Lady Filmmakers being our first screening, we are looking forward to the feedback.
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
We are hoping people will look forward to seeing the film at Lady Filmmakers. We are thrilled to have this support within the community and are excited to see the other films at the festival.
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?
We are looking to connect with film festival directors, distributors and representation. This is the beginning of I’M HERE’S festival journey and we would love to have support for its run and what comes next.
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
LEA-BETH: I would like for people to be moved by the film. I think that is all any filmmaker really hopes for.
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?
What would you say if you could speak to someone you lost one more time?
Would you like to add anything else?
Thank you for featuring I’M HERE on www.wearemovingstories.com. This is a wonderful community to be a part of.
What other projects are the key creatives developing or working on now?
Our production company is developing Rebecca’s feature directing debut. We have two scripts she has co-written that we are very excited about attaching partners to. One is a revenge thriller set in 1972, and the other is a very dark comedy with a kick-ass female protagonist.
