Lady Filmmakers Festival 2018 - Honey Do
A man finds himself in a complicated set of relationships, each with their own "honey do" checklist of chores for him to perform.
Interview with Writer/Director/Executive Producer Cherie Julander
Congratulations! Why did you make your film?
Thank you! "Honey Do" came at a time when a lot of personal struggles in my life were preventing me from finding a creative outlet. Being able to produce this film – short and simple as it is – marked a victory in moving past personal trauma.
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
I would recommend "Honey Do" to anyone that enjoys independent psychological thrillers.
How do personal and universal themes work in your film?
While it was produced as a psychological thriller, "Honey Do" does touch on some very timely themes. This film touches on issues of gender inequality and misperception.a
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development?
"Honey Do" was one of those script ideas that hit me all at once and made it from brain to page relatively quickly. I think the most drastic evolution came in the casting process. It's one thing to imagine how these people will speak, walk, and talk – it's another to hand the character over to a talented actor who can truly breathe life into your words. Watching the characters come to life in ways that I hadn't imagined was my favorite part of this production.
What type of feedback have you received so far?
Thus far, the feedback has been wonderful! No film is perfect, and one can always (and should always) find ways to grow, but overall the reaction to "Honey Do" has been positive.
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
As an independent filmmaker, exposure is everything. I am hoping to be able to connect with other like-minded industry professionals.
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
Mainly, I hope people enjoy it.
What other projects are the key creatives developing or working on now?
Since "Honey Do" was first screened, I have had a few filmmakers and writers reach out, hoping to collaborate on future projects. Currently, I am working with an independent production company to direct a feature film later this year (title still pending). I'm always looking for thought provoking stories and welcome passionate collaboration.
