The Goddess Project
Two filmmakers and a journey to empower womankind.
Interview with Writer/Director/Producer Holli Rae & Sara Landas
Congratulations! Why did you make your film?
Thank you so much! We created this film to amplify the voices of women and share stories that are missing from mainstream media. Our goal was to create a film that women from all walks of life could see themselves in and relate to.
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
The Goddess Project is a film to remind you of who you are and what you are capable of. You will laugh, cry and feel closer to the person next to you in just 101 minutes. You will witness a creative journey of over 100 different women vulnerably sharing their truths and you will feel empowered to contribute to the world in a bigger way afterwards. If you are looking for inspiration in life, this film is it!

How do personal and universal themes work in your film?
The film shows our journey traveling across the United States in a school bus to create this film, as well as part of the post-production to finish the film. We decided to interweave our own story with women's in scrapbook chapters with the overarching theme of the book being that women are creators on a journey to create. Whether it's giving birth to a project, film, baby, business or idea, we are capable of creating anything we want to in life.
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development?
Creating a film with over 100 women as our first feature was extremely ambitious. We have worked and re-worked the script and film in so many ways, in order to be able to include all the different facets of womanhood that the film covers. The final result was created thanks to feedback we received along the way that really helped us hone down to the core message of the film and the most powerful stories from each woman.
What type of feedback have you received so far?
The feedback has been absolutely incredible and heart-warming! Since screenings started last year, the film has screened in over 200 spaces globally, playing everywhere from movie theaters and community spaces to a women's prison in Texas, film festival in Tel Aviv, and even at Youtube HQ!
After every screening, the audience members are excited to keep the conversations going that the film sparks, even months after the event! It has sparked the start of many women's support groups, events, retreats and more. Watching this positive ripple effect spread is the greatest joy of my life.
Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?
A couple people have been critical that there are certain "types of women" missing in the film. There are infinite perspectives that we would love to have included, but this is sometimes hard to hear because we tried the best we could to interview as many women as possible with the skills and resources we had at the time. We were two first time filmmakers making a feature with a huge, cross-country cast and international, all woman crew on a tiny budget.
This feedback has confirmed how important it is for people to be able to see themselves in media, and continues to shape everything I create moving forward.
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
We would love to reach more people who can benefit from this inspiration! After 7 years in the making, we are so excited to be releasing the film!
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?
All of the above! We are releasing the film on iTunes, Amazon, DVD, Blu-ray and more March 8,2018 to all English Speaking territories. We are looking for help spreading the word about the release and distributing the film to even more people in different languages around the world.
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
The goal with this film is to empower women and girls, build community and inspire people to contribute to the world in a bigger way.
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?
What do you want to create in life? (We have an entire discussion guide available with the film when you host a screening!)
Would you like to add anything else?
Thank you for this opportunity and your help spreading the word!
