Brainless Agenda
Brainless Agenda is a short form digital, animated, one-minute, sketch comedy show. Every episode features a different brand of ignorance easily recognized today. Each character is uncomfortably relatable to a different demographic, and if you’re as heavily entwined in social media as the millennial generation, you will resonate with all of them.
Interview with Writer/Director/Producer Linnea Sage
Congratulations! Why did you make the series?
I made this series for myself, really. I wanted to create an outlet for my own brain and what I thought was funny without committing to writing an entire series or feature. I wanted to capture characters using every talent I possess and also wanted to be able to share it with people as soon as possible.
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this series?
2017 was hard. 2018 is hard. Brainless Agenda was born out of a need to laugh at the types of characters the present day has created (mostly due to the anonymity of the internet.) Anyone can be as terrible as they want to now, because fewer people are willing to tell them to their face that they are acting ridiculous. I am calling them all out in my series and you get to watch that and laugh and realize you know those people. Laughing at them makes you less angry at their existence.
How do personal and universal themes work in your series?
I personally believe that all of these characters are universally known. At least in Western culture.
How have the script and series evolved over the course of their development?
They haven’t. Each episode is a completely different character and story so there isn’t much development. It seems like you haven’t watched this series. You should! It’s funny.
What type of feedback have you received so far?
It’s gotten into many film festivals, which I’m really proud of. A great moment was when the creators of the Mighty Boosh liked my parody episode of their famous character Old Greg. I’m also stoked that the Winkelvoss Twins loved my Bitcoin episode.
Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?
I am definitely surprised to have a few solid fans this early on. I have no social influence or connections, so anytime a fan reaches out to tell me they love the series I am genuinely touched.
What are you looking to achieve by having your series more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
It’s a shitty time we are living in where the only way to get anywhere is the number of followers you have. It’s a tricky game to play! I am trying to get my series noticed and followed and appreciated by as many people as possible. I want Brainless Agenda to be huge.
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this series message?
Networks, producers, or distributors.
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this series to have?
I feel like the 2018 version of Seinfeld. No weird person, or situation, or comment is safe! I am trying to make sure it’s all encompassed in my series. So… I would like Brainless Agenda to be the next Seinfeld. Or- an animated, short form, female created version of Seinfeld.
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this series?
Why do we go through life seeing and watching people be ridiculous and just accept it or worse, get angry at it? Why don’t we laugh about it? Let’s all laugh about it. Laughter defeats anger and hatred every time. It resets your brain so you can think rationally and make better decisions.
