Princeton Independent Film Festival 2018 - Nightmares by the Sea
After losing custody of his son, a young father is forced to confront the meaning of his existence.
Interview with Writer/Director/Producer Skinner Myers
Congratulations! Why did you make your film?
I made this film because I was struggling with depression and my responsibilities as a parent a few years ago.
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
You should watch it because it will take you on a visceral and emotional rollercoaster not often seen in the short film format.
How do personal and universal themes work in your film?
All of my films start with exploring a philosophical questions. Usually it has something to do with the human condition and the American experiment.
Our amazing cast
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development?
Well this is an adaptation of a feature script by the same title. This is a more experimental version of the much larger project.
What type of feedback have you received so far?
It's been intensely positive.
Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?
I was surprised that people felt the emotions I was hoping they would feel while watching this film. It's one of those things where you either get it right or you get it very wrong.
The crew working hard to get a shot
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
I'm hoping to get people interested in helping me tell the feature version of this story.
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?
For the feature version we need producers/financiers.
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
I want this film to be seen as a piece of art more so than a traditional film. I would love for it to play in a museum.
Yutaka Myers’ acting debut
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?
What is the meaning of life? This film explores that hard to answer question.
What other projects are the key creatives developing or working on now?
I'm in pre-production on my new film, КРАСОТА ГОРИТ (Things of Beauty Burn). We just launched a seed&spark crowdfunding campaign and will be starting production in mid-January.
