Interview with Director Sean Martinez

Congratulations! Why did you make your film?
I believe the story was different and compelling, Drug addiction and its effect on your lifestyle and family is a topic I could not pass up. Something like this needed to be told.
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
I wanted the audience to dream, to be in a world they had never seen before.
How do personal and universal themes work in your film?
I believe that no matter what the situation, people will do anything for the ones that they love, whether it be a child and parent, family, romantically or friendship, which is both highly personal and universal.
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development?
The evolution of this film was an everyday process. From finding the perfect cast to match the characters to convey the message, to the production working as a team and making an alternate world. It’s a film; everyday is an evolution to make this film.
What type of feedback have you received so far?
The audience was shocked and left wanting more.
Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?
The feedback received so far has definitely been what I wanted.
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
To get the word out about my award winning short film, so that my vision can be seen by all different walks of life. So more people have the opportunity to be a part of my artistic development as a Director. To be given a greater opportunity to expand such an impactful film.
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?
The ultimate goal of the film is to make it a feature, with that being said financing would play a major role in making that dream a reality. A journalist would help spread the word to different platforms and reach different audiences that we already haven’t reached in the process.
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
I think the right reception would be to have an open heart and open mind, that love has no face or specific way of being shown and that just because we love differently, doesn’t make it wrong and that innocence is the purest kind of love that there is.
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?
Do you know what favors are?
Would you like to add anything else?
Support all media platforms.
What other projects are the key creatives developing or working on now?
We do have a full feature script ready to go, our main focus is to put this in production by the beginning of next year so for all the financiers that are ready, We are ready as well.

A Midwestern Methamphetamine Fairytale
Cause life gets complicated, baby.
Length: 25 minutes
Director: Sean Martinez
Producer: Sean Martinez, Victoria Mitchell, James Vasquez
Writer: Matthew Storm, Roger Scheck
Director, Sean Martinez: A first-time filmmaker. With a unique ability to visualize and execute any project, his visions vividly come to life. His warm, charismatic and inviting personality allows him to draw the room in and earn each one of his crewmembers respect. The respect and effective communication he provides allows all his ideas to run smoothly so that the actors and crew can easily picture his unique views and instantly feel inspired while making all aspects of the project run effectively.
Producers, James Vasquez: Born in sunny Southern California and is also a twin. The love of filmmaking began because of a wrestling injury in high school. He studied film in college and earned a BA degree. After over 200 camera department credits, he decided to take his creativeness behind the lens into the producing world after teaming up with his producing partner Sean Martinez.
Victoria Mitchell: Graduated from USC and California Western Law School, but her joy is being a stay at home mom in San Diego, CA. She is also very passionate about film, and decided to go outside her comfort zone to produce a movie showing the ugly side of drugs. As a mother, she feels it is important to show this side of drugs and start the conversation of drug addiction and how it can hurt those around you. Fairytale provides the story needed to start such conversations and tells a story that needs to be told. She truly believes in the whole film process from start to finish, with a desire to see the vision through it’s full potential.
Writers, Matt Storm and Roger Scheck: While classmates at film school at the North Carolina School of the Arts in 2002. They made a fast friendship while working on each other’s daily projects. Roger graduated with a degree in Cinematography, while Matt opted for a concentration in Writing. Both moved to Los Angeles and began co-writing projects together.
Roger Scheck came to NCSA from the small town of McAlister, Oklahoma, where he fell in love with the cinema through films by Tarantino, Hitchcock and Scorcese. His love for darker topics and loud music led him to do the initial draft of what would become “A Midwestern Methamphetamine Fairytale”. He also wrote and directed “Nobody Loves Alice”, a low-budget feature about a disturbed woman that becomes obsessed with a life she can never have.
Matt Storm brings a bent sense of innocent humor to things he writes. He grew up in the American South, a product of Stephen King and Weird Al Yankovic. When Roger asked for help expanding the story that would become “Fairytale”, Matt tried to paint the story with his own unique brush. He shoots for colorful characters with unique voices in his scripts, making for original storytelling experiences.
