Slamdance - Oh What a Wonderful Feeling
Stars, hide your fires, let not light see my black and deep desires. Nor a truck.
Interview with Writer/Director François Jaros
Congratulations! Why did you make your film?
I have an obsession with truck stops, those bizarre, lifeless and lonely environments. I started to write about the silhouette characters that inhabit them. And it became an introspection about our inner nature, and other stranger matters.
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
The film takes you on an unusual and unsettling journey though the night. It’s a particular disquieting strangeness experience where the trivial becomes a threat. And it’s great fun.
How do personal and universal themes work in your film?
The film is one young girl’s experience of going through that one night. The film is an exploration of her inner world.
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development and production?
The audience’s anticipation of the film is a key element of the film’s narrative. The script was based on that participation, leaving certain elements for the audience to feel and imagine. The editing was all about maintaining that narrative thread.
What type of feedback have you received so far?
We received incredible feedback: a lot of people are fascinated by the film and felt they had to sit down and talk about it, which is pretty rare for a short film.
Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?
Every viewer has a slightly different understanding of the film, which was absolutely intentional. It’s been fascinating to hear those points of view. They reveal so much of one’s view of the world.
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
We make films to share them and to create a dialogue.
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?
People to see it. So: more festivals to program it.
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
Exactly what’s happening to the film. I can’t be more pleased than what is happening to the film.
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?
“Wait, did that just happen?”
Would you like to add anything else?
Hello!
What projects are the key creatives developing or working on now?
I always work with the same crew. We just wrapped a series and we are prepping of a new short and I’m writing a feature.
Interview: January 2017
