April 2020: NYC GROUND ZERO: HOSPITALS

NY State remains the global epicenter of the COVID-19 crisis with 149,316 people testing positive, more people than either Spain or Italy. Yesterday 779 people died from the virus, in NY State, compared with 731 the day before according to the New York Times. (4/9/20)

NYC GROUND ZERO: LET’S TALK ABOUT WORK - 29 MARCH 2020

In filmmaker Loredana Gasparotto’s news video diary she interviews three New York co-workers who work with her at an Emergency Center For Children. They talk about what it’s really like to live and work in Queens during the Covid-19 Pandemic. Hospital beds that line around the block at Elmhurst Hospital, crowded buses, mass store closures and claustrophobia: this is Queens Ground Zero. In the week that this was filmed over 6.5 million Americans filed for unemployment.

QUEENS SUNDAY 27 MARCH 2020

Queens, NYC, is the current epicenter of the COVID-19 Crisis. Queens Ground Zero was filmed by Director and Queens resident Loredana Gasparotto on Sunday 29 March 2020.

Queens is currently under strict lockdown. In the worst affected areas of Queens up to 70% of patients are Covid-19 positive. In total more than 10,000 people have tested positive and 150 people have died.

Queens Ground Zero is the first of a special report initiative by We Are Moving Stories, the world’s largest online platform for new voices in film with over 2.500 contributors and more than 50% women’s participation - an industry record.

We will work with photographers and filmmakers in both the US and internationally to license images and footage of the Covid-19 Crisis to media outlets.

We are also seeking emergency funding from organizations and philanthropies which share our aims.
