Chuck, a Nicaraguan graffiti pioneer, begins a trip through Central America in which he alters the spray can of the different "writers" of each country in the region. It takes us to know the movement from its beginnings. Its lines unite us to create an urban cultural bridge.
Interview with Writer/Director/Producer Federico Peixoto
Congratulations! Why did you make your film?
I wanted to document the evolution of Graffiti in Costa Rica since day one, later I decided to document the whole Central American region since we have a similar story and it is a forgotten part of the world.
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
It is a window to the Central American underground movement and a story that has not been told before.
How do personal and universal themes work in your film?
The struggle to survive and acknowledge your existence is a universal need!
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development?
I started to make a documentary about Costa Rican graffiti, but end up doing a documentary about the whole Central American graffiti history (Panama, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua).
What type of feedback have you received so far?
People are surprised to learn about Central American artists, they did not expected to see such a developed movement in our region.
Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?
Yes it has! We are happy to share our story to the world.
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
We want to be more visible and show Central American talent and story to the world and find more support for the project.
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?
We need journalists to reach out to more people, we need distributors, sale agents and buyers since the doc is only on Vimeo On Demand and has no distribution yet.
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
I would like to put Central America graffiti/artists on the map since we are invisible to the world.
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?
Central America’s culture is invisible to the world. We are small undeveloped countries in a forgotten region of the world, only known for war, gangs, or Tourist attractions, but our culture and artists are unknown to the world for many reasons...
Would you like to add anything else?
Thank you for the support and letting Central American artist tell their story!
What other projects are the key creatives developing or working on now?
We are working on a new cultural series in Central America.
