ASHES / CENDRES
With the help of a young Tunisian hunting guide, a retired French soldier sets out into the desert on a quest for redemption.
Interview with Actor/Writer/Director Mehdi AJROUDI
Congratulations! Why did you make your film?
The basic idea was to write a film about Tunisian history and highlight our country.
I wanted to take the topical theme taken up by everyone in the wrong direction, that of young people who go illegally to Europe. I chose the people who fought for our country to be our territory.
Also, I wanted to showcase Tunisia’s beautiful landscape and the capability of our crew
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
The project based on historical event. It’s an intense adventure between two men in the desert. A deep reflection on life while contrasting the desert’s beauty to its danger. Guaranteed goosebumps !
How do personal and universal themes work in your film?
It is based on true story involving my family. The film is about the impossible redemption, but also about the meaning of forgiveness in the face of the atrocities.
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development?
Like every film the process never goes 100% as it was planned, which ended up giving us some unexpected beauty shot and hard moments that we turned into advantages.
What type of feedback have you received so far?
Very positives feedback, everyone is asking question about Tunisia and it’s history.
Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?
Certain feedback have Challenged our point of views when the film wasn’t seen with attention to details. You will find out more and more information by seeing it multiple times.
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
I am looking for filmmakers to shoot in the beautiful country of Tunisia.
People to get on the adventure of our next projects
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?
Producers, film festival directors, distributors directors, actors.
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
More awareness of other part of the world and the meaning of forgiveness.
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?
Does forgiveness have a limit ?
Would you like to add anything else?
Guaranteed goosebumps !
What other projects are the key creatives developing or working on now?
I am working on a desert epic, Laurence of Arabia meets thief of Bagdad.
