Looking Back
George gets more than he bargained for when he discovers a ghost living in the backup camera of his new car.
Interview with Writer/Director Michael Charron
Congratulations! Why did you make your film?
I'm a storyteller at heart. I have ideas constantly coming out and I'm always looking for ways to tell them. Short films have been my method for the last few years.
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
It's different. It was my effort to blend comedy (my true love) with drama and horror and somehow it also turned out kind of sweet at the same time.
How do personal and universal themes work in your film?
Generally, I try to make people laugh, first and foremost. But I also like to make those laughs come from unexpected places. There are elements of this story that come from my personal life but are filtered heavily through the absurdity of the story.
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development?
The idea originally struck me as a straight horror comedy but I just let it gestate for a while until I found the right way to execute the idea.
What type of feedback have you received so far?
It's been generally pretty great! We've been well-received by audiences and festivals and we are excited to see where it goes from here!
Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?
When I first completed the script and sent it to people I was surprised by how many people responded to me about how sweet and touching it is. It's a very ridiculous idea but I was able to guide it into something a bit more.
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
To bring a higher profile to what we do. I have an amazing team of cast/crew who work with me here in Austin TX and I hope to get more people out to see our work!
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?
We'd love to have anyone on board who can help us get the film seen by more people, whether that's festival directors, journalists or distributors.
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
I'd just like people to enjoy it. Laugh and maybe people think about the different ways you can tell a story.
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?
I think once people see it I hope it begins a discussion about how we live our lives and that no two people have to be the same. We can sometimes find our joy and love in places that we don't expect.
What other projects are the key creatives developing or working on now?
We are currently in production on an action/comedy short called Leverage with a lot of the same cast and crew involved.
After that I'm planning to shoot a feature film, this one being a dramedy about grief. But of course, bringing the same oddball approach to this as everything else.

About the writer, director and producer:
MICHAEL CHARRON sees the movie theater as a place where traditions are subverted and where the status quo gets turned on its head. And this is where his writing sensibilities lie–in taking an established concept or idea and finding a way to turn it into something unexpected. From slasher films where the “sexy girls” are the most competent ones to a rom-com where the meet-cute takes place during casting for a snuff film, there’s no trope he’s unwilling to push to its limit.
ALYSSIA RIVERA was born and raised in Kingsville, Texas. She found her passion for theatre and film at a young age and began working in film professionally when she moved to San Antonio in 2010. Since then, she has made a name for herself as a multi-award-winning actress on the film festival circuit. When not on set or preparing for her next role, she enjoys spending time with her dog and her family. You can catch her smile and bubbly personality as the host of the Austin Revolution Film Festival.
