The story of a relationship told through the intimate perspective of the bathroom mirror.
Interview with Writer/Director Summer Sveinson
Congratulations! Why did you make your film?
I wanted to make a film about a relationship that anyone could relate to, no matter who you love or where you come from. My goal was to show that the beauty of relationships is in the small, everyday moments. Magic in the monotony.
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
First and foremost, to be entertained! Going on this journey with the characters, allows the audience to reflect back on their own experiences. And with that, they are able to have a deeper compassion for all kinds of relationships.
How do personal and universal themes work in your film?
Personally, I tend to write stories that explore the complexities of relationships, be they romantic, family, or friendship. It is always my goal to make films that help us all feel more connected.
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development?
The audio was the biggest evolution. We tried many different things; dialogue, music, dialogue and music, etc. We also went through several different types of music. But in the end, we found that the original score plus sound design was the most impactful. Our composer, Allen Orr, did such an amazing job capturing the emotion with his music.
What type of feedback have you received so far?
The most interesting and fun thing has been the variety of how people interpreted what happens in the film. Because you never hear what the characters are actually saying, audiences put their own experiences and their own ideas onto what they are seeing. And it's always different! And none of it is right or wrong, it's all in how they personally see it.
Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?
It has been surprising hearing certain interpretations that didn't even occur to me.
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
I would love to have everyone who was part of this film and did such a wonderful job, to have their work seen, appreciated, and considered for future projects.
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?
Any and everyone!
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
I would love audiences to feel more understanding and more connected to each other.
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?
What do you think the characters are fighting about?
