Congratulations! Why did you make your film?

Today we are experiencing new waves and rising tides of bigotry and anti-Jewish hate; I made this film to reveal an unexpected story about the modern Jewish experience.

Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?

The themes in this film are universal to people of all backgrounds and cultures, especially those who feel afraid to be different.

How do personal and universal themes work in your film?

I appear in the film and narrate personal experiences that happened.

How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development?

Making this documentary was not only personal but highly investigative as new information came to us throughout the journey.

What type of feedback have you received so far?

Audiences around the world seem to really connect with the film and are shocked by the dark undertones we reveal about surfing culture.

What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?

I must specify that I cannot have the full film published since we are still in a festival run, but I am hoping for representation to see this story and perhaps more importantly, I am hoping for distributors to help me find a home for it.

Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?

All of the above.

What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?

I'd like this film to help shift our consciousness into one that is even more diverse and inclusive.

What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?

Why does antisemitism not get as much attention?

What other projects are the key creatives developing or working on now?

I'm co-directing a new documentary about the African-American and Jewish-American relationship, conflict, and future goals.

About the writer, director and producer:

JOSH GREENE is an award-winning film director from San Clemente, California. Growing up equidistant between Los Angeles and San Diego fostered his love for both cinema and the outdoors, especially the ocean. He attended the University of Southern California's School of Cinematic Arts, majoring in Film Production. There, Josh met filmmakers who would inspire him to create his own company, Landport Productions. In his final semester of film school, Josh directed Waves Apart, a short subject documentary chronicling the untold history of antisemitism in surfing. He worked with producers Aslan Dalgic and Ela Passarelli, editors Liam Mills and Elizabete Sadauska, and sound design team Aidan Barringer and Kristie Taiwo-Nakanjuola. The film was recognized as a Student Academy Award® Finalist, and was one of seven documentaries nominated out of nearly 2,000 submissions. Waves Apart went on to have its World Premiere at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, before gaining Official Selection to the Emerging Filmmaker Showcase at the Cannes Film Festival. At Cannes, Josh's film won Best Student Documentary.
