Boss Blood
A young woman who grew up with a single mother, meets a man who inspires her to strive for more out of life.
Interview with Writer/Director/Producer/Editor Shelton R. Johnson
Congratulations! Why did you make your film?
Up until this point, I've only directed comedies. I wanted to diversify my portfolio with a drama.
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
It's a relatable protagonist who'll inspire you to overcome your challenges.
How do personal and universal themes work in your film?
It's universal in the sense of being the underdog, which most people can relate to. It's personal as it shows detail of how the protagonist views herself.
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development?
Not much. lol. I spent a lot of time fleshing out the story and writing the script. The film is very close to how I imagined it.
What type of feedback have you received so far?
It will premier at film festivals. So up until this point, I've only shown it to a handful of close family and friends. Of course, they liked it. lol. I'm excited to receive feedback from peers and people who don't know me personally.
Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?
No. I've only received "good job" as of now.
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
I'm hoping to get hired as a film director.
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?
Sales agents, buyers, and distributors.
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
I would like this film to have an inspirational impact on all who view it.
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?
Why did you decide to move away from comedy?
What other projects are the key creatives developing or working on now?
I'm currently writing a feature film.

About the writer, director and producer:
After periodically writing for fun most of his life, SHELTON R. JOHNSON started taking writing seriously in 2014 after the birth of his son. After publishing four novels, including a trilogy of comedies, Johnson found that his target audience preferred film over novels. So in 2017, he adapted his first novel, Thankful for My Family into a screenplay. Despite receiving a 7/10 score on Blacklist, he was unable to sell the script. In 2019, he decided to produce and direct the feature film himself, and with over 40 reviews it has averaged a 4-star rating on Amazon. Since his debut film, Johnson has been solely focused on improving as a filmmaker. In 2020, he wrote and directed three short films and won the Atlanta Comedy Film Festival for Best Overall Screenplay. In 2021, Johnson started his production company, Summit’s Creek Studios, and directed two more short films. One of which, went on to win 3 awards in New Mexico, New Orleans, and New York in 2022. Johnson plans on creating a few more shorts during 2023 before moving to his 2nd feature film in 2024. He is a proud Norfolk, Virginia native and JMU graduate. He likes to spend most of his free time with his wife and children at their home in Southern Maryland. His hobbies include reading, smoking meat, fishing, and playing Dominos (Bones) with his son, Jack.
