Still Waters
While car fans are driving laps at the Nürburgring, people not far away in the Ahr Valley are hovering between confidence and hopelessness half a year after the flood disaster.
Interview with Director Kevin Koch
Congratulations! Why did you make your film?
We made the film because of the urgency to tell the stories of people who are struggling after the floods with winter being around the corner.
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
This film hopefully gives an insight into the lives of people who are recovering after a massive climate disaster in a well-developed country like Germany without many climate disasters yet. It should also make people think about what matters – a racetrack or flood protection.
How do personal and universal themes work in your film?
We combined two personal yet different stories of coping with the disaster with the universal theme of how we deal with disasters like these.
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development?
At first, we planned this film with just one protagonist, but then we met Horst, our second protagonist and really liked the contrast between the two and also their connection with the goldfish. This was the poetic little thing we really loved. Two elderly men who cared about their fish as a spark of hope.
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
I hope to expand into international territories and maybe find people who would love to help out with distribution or TV spots for the film.
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?
Distributors, Buyers, Film Festival Directors and journalists
What other projects are the key creatives developing or working on now?
Currently, we are working on a short fiction film we shot in Paris in December 2022. The film is about a father/son conflict and is currently in post-production.
