Flickerfest / Clermont-Ferrand 2019 - Piggy (Cerdita)
Being a teen is a horror story.
Interview with Writer/Director Carlota Pereda
Watch Piggy (Cerdita) here:
Congratulations! Why did you make your film?
That I was bringing a baby girl into the world sometimes terrifies me. This short film was a way of exorcising those fears by confronting them head on.
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
Being a teen can be a horror story. Step into Sara's life. You'll have a hell of a ride and Laura Galan, our leading actress, gives the performance of a lifetime.
How do personal and universal themes work in your film?
They are intertwined. I can only write about what matters to me, what moves me. I think genre movies can be a fantastic vehicle for social matters. You’re not preaching to the already-converted.
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development?
It is the first time nothing has changed. With so little dialogue, the script was almost just succession shots.
What type of feedback have you received so far?
It's been great. We're having a great run at festivals, have been nominated for a Goya (Spain’s Academy Awards) and the audiences have been happily perturbed by our Piggy.
Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?
Not really. I’m open to all interpretations of the short.
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
I hope audiences and other filmmakers read about it and try to watch it. To spread the word, really.
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?
Any will be fine. Movies cannot change the world but they do force you to view things from someone else’s perspective. The more the merrier.
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
I want people to feel perturbed.
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?
Avoiding spoilers, I’d say: How do you feel about the ending. Why?
Would you like to add anything else?
If you like it, talk about it.
What other projects are the key creatives developing or working on now?
I’m working on a feature film based on my previous short, “The Blondes”.
