WICKED QUEER Boston LGBT Film Festival 2019 – Time & Again
Eleanor and Isabelle meet again, sixty years after their relationship break up...
Interview with Director/Writer/Producer Rachel Dax
Congratulations! Why did you make your film?
I wanted to tell a story about older lesbians that had them still active and making decisions rather than just reminiscing about the past.
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
Watch it to understand lesbian history and watch it to laugh and cry!
How do personal and universal themes work in your film?
Nearly all of my films involve LGBTQ themes and, of course, there is always one character who is a version of oneself. In this case, it is Eleanor, although the actual story is original!
In terms of a more universal theme - Time & Again explores what might happen if you met the first person who broke your heart, sixty years after the event...
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development?
The dialogue in the film is very close to the script I wrote back in April last year (2018). It also looks very similar to how I imagined it would be. However, having Dame Sian Phillips and Brigit Forsyth (two of the greatest actresses in the UK) come on board made the film ten times better than I thought it would be! They are literally on fire from start to finish and it gives the film an amazing edge!
What type of feedback have you received so far?
Wicked Queer Boston LGBT Film Festival is its premiere, so I look forward to hearing people's views after that. At the private screening for friends and family everyone was crazy about it - whether LGBTQ or straight!
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
It is always a privilege to be part of a movement that aims to promote the work of women. I hope that more people discover my work as a result of being visible on here!
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?
I would love this film to get into hundreds of festivals - both mainstream and LGBQ. It has a very powerful message.
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
I would like people to both laugh and cry. I would also like older lesbians - those who lived through the days when coming out for many meant sacrificing family and friends - to feel like their story has been told in a new way.
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?
What would you do if you met the first person to break your heart, sixty years after the event?
What other projects are the key creatives developing or working on now?
I have two shorts and a feature film in development. As with all filmmakers I am looking for investors to get all/any of these projects off the ground!
