Queens World Film Festival / Taos Shortz Film Festival / Cleveland International Film Festival 2019 – Les Trompes de Ma Mere (Under Mom's Skirt)

March 30, 2019 by Carmela Baranowska

A young woman goes with her mother for a routine medical check-up, that turns out to be full of surprises...

Interview with Director/Writer/Producer/Editor Sarah Heitz de Chabaneix

Watch Les Trompes de Ma Mere (Under Mom's Skirt) here:

Congratulations! Why did you make your film?

I wanted to explore a topic common to all women and which, however, is not often broached in cinema. In addition, I wanted to allow the male audience to access a keyhole and therefore, see what happens behind the closed doors of a gynecologist.

Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?

Because it should make you laugh! Well... it usually does!

Les Trompes de Ma Mere

How do personal and universal themes work in your film?

The film is about mother and daughter relationships, which is a personal favourite theme, and more generally, it's about what we think we already know about the people we love. Everyone can relate to the fact that we can be flabbergasted when we discover their intimate secrets.

How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development?

There have been very few versions of the script because I had it in mind for a long time. But the film has changed a lot in editing, especially to give the right rhythm to comedy.

What type of feedback have you received so far?

I am lucky to have had wonderful feedback so far. Probably because comedy allows people to get out of their daily lives and give themselves a little moment of pure entertainment.

Les Trompes de Ma Mere

Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?

I was surprised that so many people recognize themselves in the characters. Many mothers told me that they wanted to share this film with their daughters because they did not often have the opportunity to discuss these topics with them.

What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?

I would like to pique the curiosity of the audience and invite them to discover short films, everywhere they can.

Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?

Probably journalists, to get a little bit more visibility.

Les Trompes de Ma Mere

What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?

Our film has already exceeded my expectations, and I am delighted that it has travelled the world. We have presented it in almost 80 festivals, and its journey is not over yet. I am always delighted to meet the public and hear their laughter in the movie theatres.

What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?

How did you get this idea?

What other projects are the key creatives developing or working on now?

I am currently working on two short films that should be shot this year, and writing several TV shows. And when I get some free time, I try to immerse myself in the writing of my first feature film.
