Sherman Oaks Film Festival / Wild West Film Festival 2019 – Shoot 'Em Dead
When outlaw Don Barren is cornered by the sheriff and his posse, he only has one option... Shoot 'Em Dead.
Interview with Writer/Director/Producer/Editor/Actor Drew Macias and Vinny Macias
Congratulations! Why did you make your film?
Thanks so much. Well, we made the film, one because it was absurd, fun, and doable. Also, we like to make these little movies to work on our craft. The time and energy it takes to make a movie no matter how long or short is a great way to learn and grow as a filmmaker.
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
Well, it's not the longest film you'll ever see, it doesn't have a deep dark, well-developed storyline. But it has heart and by golly, we hope it makes you laugh.
How do personal and universal themes work in your film?
In a nutshell... crime doesn't pay.
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development?
Really, we were lucky that what we originally brainstormed stayed on course the entire time and was captured once we filmed and edited it.
What type of feedback have you received so far?
Audiences have really given us solid feedback. They love the absurdity of it, the quality of the film making, and most of all how short and sweet it is. And we love to hear the laughs throughout.
Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?
No, not really. I think when you make a comedy or something that you think is funny. You are always scared to see if people get it. So far we have been lucky with the comedies we have made. We like to tap into our love for Leslie Nielson movies we grew up watching.
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
Film making is such a group endeavor. Being on a platform that links you with others is such a great way to grow and meet likeminded people. If this opportunity can amplify that, then that is fantastic.
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?
Anyone who can get our film in front of more eyes would be awesome.
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
We just want to make people laugh, smile, and enjoy.
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?
How about those brothers and that funny little western. Or... is it just me, or did that six-shooter have too many bullets.
Would you like to add anything else?
Shoot 'Em Dead was filmed in Paris, CA. We shot for four hours on the fly and the talented Vinny Macias Edited it in about two days. In total for sound and gunshots, it took about a week. We thank you for the opportunity and interest in our silly little film.
What other projects are the key creatives developing or working on now?
We have another short, fun western in the making, we just came up with a fun period piece that is on the drawing board. Also, a boxing dramadie short film that we are looking to get funded. And we do have a dream project, a feature film that our uncle wrote that we would love to get made. Also looking for funding on that.
