Slamdance Film Festival 2020 – Pitalev
Kid. Woman. Pita. Heart.
Interview with Writer/Director/Producer Omri Dekel Kadosh
Watch Pitalev here:
Congratulations! Why did you make your film?
I've just graduated from film school and everything was so heavy, so I gathered a few friends, grabbed an iPhone and a camcorder and decided to make a punk film.
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
It's 10 minutes long. It's punk, like an Instagram story and poetic like a slap in your face and It's gonna break your heart and make you hungry at the same time.
How do personal and universal themes work in your film?
It's about love, disappointment and fast food. I think we can all relate to that right?
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development?
The making of Pitalev was very jazz, as the characters are all non-actors acting as themselves in real life. The relationships and locations are all real, and the script was improvised and very dynamic because of that. Our main goal was to create deep emotional attachment and a documentary level of authenticity.
What type of feedback have you received so far?
People think it's a documentary film sometimes.
Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?
For me, as a filmmaker who explores the borders between fiction and documentary this is the best reaction I could get.
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
Getting more people to watch the film, feel it and get to know my characters
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?
Sales Agents, Buyers, Film Festivals, and anyone who will help me make the film reach more hearts!
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
CRY AND EAT.
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?
Is a film shot on an iPhone and a camcorder still a film?
or is it just a long instagram\tik-tok story
Would you like to add anything else?
<3
What other projects are the key creatives developing or working on now?
I'm currently working on a mid-length hybrid film in which I'm acting with my parents as ourselves. It's called The Accident and it tells the story of a tragic accident we had on the way to my Bar Mitzvah when I was younger.
