Watch on Prime Video
Congratulations! Why did you make your film?
I made this film because I was empowered by voguing. And I wanted to bring this culture to my father's country: French Guiana.
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
To know more about the critical situation for the LGBTQ community in French Guiana.
How do personal and universal themes work in your film?
We discover the discrimination, ostracism and violence that the LGBTQ community has to face within French Guiana, and how it's difficulty to be who you want to be, to live your life as you want, to free yourself from the codes of genders and sexuality of your society, it's a universal fight.
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development?
Yes. At the beginning, the movie was a narrative. When I met Lasseindra Ninja, her story has a lot of similarities with the character I imagined. I decided to turn the project into a documentary.
What type of feedback have you received so far?
Pretty warm.
Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?
Yes of course!
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?
Film festival directors and journalists
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
I would like Fabulous to continue its life at Festivals.
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?
How being yourself in hostile territory.
Would you like to add anything else?
No.
What other projects are the key creatives developing or working on now?
Two documentaries and one narrative.
