Vimeo/You Tube 2019 – Emergence
Music Video: Two dancers come to life via a piano (the music), discover the world and each other and return to the inanimate.
Interview with Writer/Director/Producer/Editor Klaus Hoch
Watch Emergence here:
Congratulations! Why did you make your film?
It's a music video. It was made to express the idea of transformation. How music can transform the inanimate to the animate.
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
Because it's unique - a single drone take choreographed with dancers telling a story. Plus, Refractor Piano music is wonderful and new. The Refractor Piano was created by Peter Manning Robinson and myself.
How do personal and universal themes work in your film?
It follows the process of birth (two dancers emerging from the inanimate), discovering the world, discovering each, seeing the light, finding love (a connection), and choosing to return to the inanimate. All motivated by the music.
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development?
The concept for the music video is intact. The only thing that changed is the choreography. The "emergence" aspect changed from the concrete pillars to the actual piano.
What type of feedback have you received so far?
Audiences seem to really like it - both the visuals and the music.
Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?
No. It's all been pretty positive. It is a music video, not a feature-length film.
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
Publicity for the music video and the music.
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?
Journalists, reviewers.
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
More curiosity about the Refractor Piano project.
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?
Is the narrative clear? Is this new type of music interesting?
Would you like to add anything else?
Just that it's not controversial, it's more experiencial.
What other projects are the key creatives developing or working on now?
Three feature films and one tv show: sci-fi, bio, arty dark-comedy piece, and a 1/2 comedy.
