Global Impact Film Festival 2018 - Two Moments In Time
Three children in 1970 are unwittingly influenced by a tragic event that took place 60 years earlier.
Interview with Writer/Director/Producer Don Percy
Congratulations! Why did you make your film?
Thank you! Filmmaking is my means of storytelling. Two Moments In Time started as a family project; something to create with my children that they might one day look back at with fond memories (and an element of pride). I knew I wanted to tell a story about kindness and humanitarianism, and what developed was a narrative that emphasized 'kindness begetting kindness.'
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
Two Moments in Time is an entertaining and engaging family mystery with ghostly themes. It starts as a simple story of three children on a holiday adventure but builds intrigue as they unwittingly uncover the tragic story of a woman, long dead, that history is not ready to forget. The denouement delivers and rewards with a truly emotional pay off.
How do personal and universal themes work in your film?
Good-natured themes of friendship, kindness, communication and self-improvement are important to Two Moments In Time. I’ve long believed that films are more than just entertainment with the potential to influence the viewer - either consciously or sub consciously – and believe that a filmmaker is responsible for the world he or she creates and presents to an audience. In Two Moments In Time, I also wanted to evoke memories of days when children could go on a ‘real’ adventure…away from portable social media and mobile telephonic means of communication.
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development?
While the character of Elsa - the benevolent woman (or spirit) from 1910 - seemed almost a small distraction in the original script, as the film came together in production – and especially the edit - it became clear that she may be the major character of the story. She never speaks in the film, but her character and good intentions are so vivid – that the film is very much more about her than I could ever have at first imagined. She is the very heart of the film.
What type of feedback have you received so far?
Excellent feedback. Comments such as: “Epic Story”. “The most moving short film I’ve ever seen” “Worth every minute of your time…a lot to offer until the end”.
Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?
The positive feedback has only strengthened my resolve that it is possible to make entertainment without guns, car chases and zombies. (Which is not intended to be a criticism of the filmmakers that make those films – only that it is not my preferred way…)
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
By having Two Moments in Time referenced on We Are Moving Stories, I can only hope that it helps in some way to promote audience growth, and interest in me as a filmmaker. Two Moments In Time IS a moving story - so it seems a good fit.
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?
All of course!
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
It would be great to have Two Moments in Time received in a welcoming manner and recognised as engaging entertainment, despite the fact that the hero is toting a basket of vegetables instead of a gun.
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?
How should we look to our past for answers to our future?
What other projects are the key creatives developing or working on now?
A horror feature (with ethical considerations); a comedy feature for seniors (with a meaningful sense of dignity); a comedy web series…the list goes on…
