Frameline 42 / SF Frozen Film Fest 2018 - Lesbehonest: I'll be all right
Post-breakup, a womanizing lesbian moves back in with her gay best friend and rediscovers something worth strapping on to: their friendship.
Interview with Writer/Director Jana Heaton
Watch Lesbehonest: I'll be all right here:
Congratulations! Why did you make your film?
I wanted to watch something silly, stupid, and a little bit smart. Then, I wrote a little something and rallied a crew – an incredible, incredible crew. The whole production was just a whim that snowballed.
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
You wish Broad City was gayer.
How do personal and universal themes work in your film?
Themes worth discussing. For one, I think ditching your friends for hot-ass is deeply resonant in an increasingly slutty world. Also, something about burying vulnerabilities in external validation and mistaking that validation for substance or fulfillment. Is that too esoteric without seeing the film? Oh, well.
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development?
It's gotten better, funnier, and much shorter.
What type of feedback have you received so far?
"Good job. Cast more recognizable actors."
Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?
It's contextualized things. I guess the whole cast can't be a breakout.
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
More visibility for the cast and crew of NY-based up-and-comers. They do a truly terrific job. I'd love a positive write-up for my DP and cast.
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?
Yes. All of them. Mostly agents, I guess. We need hype.
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
I would love for its trivial silliness to be appreciated, lauded, and extensively discussed in comment sections across the internet. But having a wider audience enjoy the hard work we've put in sounds pretty good to me.
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?
Who is Eleanor Lewis, and how do we get more of her?
Would you like to add anything else?
Thanks for reaching out!
What other projects are the key creatives developing or working on now?
A surrealist, lo-fi spy show. It's top secret.
