Watch Lady Lash on Prime Video and IndieFlix
Congratulations! Why did you make your film?
We have began to make the documentary Lady Lash to celebrate a story of a talented strong Kokatha woman, Crystal Clyne. To film her journey back to ancestral lands to reconnect, learn, and heal with traditional practice. Lady Lash’s story is multifaceted as it celebrates her career as a songstress and MC, and delves further into her life experiences, what drives her and her determination to overcome inner struggles.
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
You should watch Lady Lash as you will learn insight into an Aboriginal woman’s life and perception together with the importance of ‘connecting to country’ which means for Aboriginal people going to their ancestral lands and spending time in the natural environment and community.
How do personal and universal themes work in your film?
Crystal Clyne (aka Lady Lash) uses creative skills to work through life, making music as an expression of oneself and connection to all whom her music reaches. The grapple of inner challenges we all face for First Nations – world-wide - connection to ‘country’ to resolve trauma and heal.
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development?
The documentary is non-scripted, though questions posed develop the content and its direction, myself and Crystal work collaboratively on the direction and content of the story.
What type of feedback have you received so far?
People are eager to see the film in its finished form. Lady Lash’s fans are excited and supportive, a strong sense of Aboriginal pride and representation is fueling us and our determination to get Lady Lash broadcast. Supporters of Genetic Circus Productions are awaiting the next film with anticipation.
Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?
No, we are just thrilled with the support!
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
We want people to know that this story is important and we need a little help to cover the cost of travelling to Ceduna (South Australia) - and we will do the rest – work hard and make this film.
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?
Executive Producer that connects to the story - we are looking for a female Exec. producer who has several broadcast credits – we invite first nations producers to contact us. We are also looking for journalists, film festival directors, buyers and broadcasters.
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
For people to connect to the story and increase their knowledge and understanding of themselves by learning about connection to country. For first nation audience we would love for a feeling of strength and celebration in positive representation of Aboriginal women and culture.
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film? How many Aboriginal women have you seen on screen?
How many documentaries have you seen that feature a female Aboriginal protagonist? What do you know about learning traditional women’s business? What do you know about being caught in two cultures? How many documentaries have you seen that is about a mother juggling her music career with family commitments?
Would you like to add anything else?
Support us in covering the costs to travel to Ceduna and film Crystal learning traditional women’s business – thanking you!
