Congratulations! Why did you make your film?
I made Crystal the Webseries as a therapeutic way to explain myself through film. I always seemed to be in the middle of misunderstandings which make for “great tv” ... but not so great for real life. This was a way for me to finally share and bring some closure to some stories I have from my own life and I love comedy so I figured I tie everything in, that way. And of course having this be my first film on my resume. Also I get to be “24” again. Scary…
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
Because you are a person and everything I write is relatable to people. Everyone goes through this awkward stage of trying to “get it together” but it’s not going to happen as fast as you would like it too. I talk about topics everyday people know too well or the younger people are going to learn quickly when they get their … 20’s . Also it’s a comedy, who doesn’t want an abs workout through laughs.
How do personal and universal themes work in your film?
It starts with a break up. Then I focus on my kinda awkward living situation with my roommate Nikki (played by Nikki Alexis Howard), who I haven’t dealt with because of the bf. So I am slowly opening up this different parts of one's life that we seem to forget until something is gone. Also you see how I handle my break up throughout the season. There’s different characters that everyone can relate to one or more, as the story goes on. And it’s not about the words, it’s physical comedy so everyone can figure out what’s going on.
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development?
Once I finished season one, I really saw that I needed to keep Crystal doing what she is doing which is working, a lot. And now I want to show that side more. With her clients vs home life.
What type of feedback have you received so far?
People from all walks of life have really enjoyed it. So far its 50/50: both men and women like it, which makes me happy. I wanted to make something everyone could enjoy and so far, I feel like it’s been achieved.
Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?
People want to see more of Crystal, alone. Which is scary because I was dipping my toes into the water so that’s going to be challenging but I am ready to share more in the second season.
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
Viewers, who just want to escape or have a “pick me up” for the day. I talk about everyday issues so I hope it brings us closing together.
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?
At the moment more journalists and another producer would be great to bring the “Crystal” world to the next level.
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
“She’s weird but funny” - that’s what my hair clients say about me, I want the same in film.
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?
“Don’t you just hate it when..” and it’s endless the curveballs life gives you.
Would you like to add anything else?
Crystal is an “in your head “ comedy, I loved LOVED Madtv as a kid and I wanted to put everything I loved and cheers me up when I am sad in a show format so I “laugh and get over it”. I got my wish.
What other projects are the key creatives developing or working on now?
So many …but the next one I want to make is a foodie show as a form of marketing “Crystal” season one until season two comes out and I didn’t want to do a typical “sit down and get to know me“ videos, so I am doing “Crystal Craves”, where I go to my favorite places to eat in LA, and it’s a dual purpose show, you get to know me more and where to eat in LA!

About the writer, director and producer:
CRYSTAL CORREA
Founder of c+ Media Productions , is a writer, director, producer, and actor.
Oh, and she loves a good story.
As a kid in a hyper-portable military family, she relied on storytelling and reinvention to keep herself entertained. When she worked on a movie set for the first time, the familiar craziness of production calmed her, and reignited her childhood obsessions.
Crystal the Webseries, is her production company’s debut project, is part-love letter, part-heinous reminder of her painfully ridiculous early twenties.
It has been featured in many film festivals including Oscar-qualifying and LA’s biggest short film festival, HollyShorts and will be part of the launch of Mammoth Film Festival!
Correa lives in Los Angeles, where she immerses herself in creative chaos at every chance she gets.
