Congratulations! Why did you make your film?
I believe it’s one of the most amazing experiences you can share with a group of people. I absolutely love it and this is just another step on a journey to keep getting better at doing it.
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
Because hopefully you will get more than you expected and have a great time enjoying the ride.
How do personal and universal themes work in your film?
They are absolutely essential in my filmmaking process, regardless of genre. THE SILVER in particular has some deep personal themes as I grew up in the desert and my father worked in aerospace, so it was a very familiar landscape to do a sci-fi film in – in the middle of the Mojave Desert. Universal themes always help shape the message and how I want you to feel after watching this film. THE SILVER was based on the idea that when a traumatic, unexplainable event happens, you won’t have answers, solutions, information or saviors. You will be at your worst mental and physical state when it occurs. Now you have to survive.
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development?
I think the biggest changes come in the creatives as the process moves forward. Ship design, creature design, cinematography etc. By allowing amazing artists to contribute and collaborate you will always come out with something better than originally planned in early script form.
What type of feedback have you received so far?
It’s been a truly great and humbling run so far. We have screened with amazing crowds at FilmQuest, Screamfest and New York City Horror Film Festival that have blown us away with support and love for the project.
Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?
Somewhat, I think it’s always so much fun to hear and see how the audience creates more of the world that was actually seen on screen.
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
We created THE SILVER with a fantastic group of people to use as a pitch piece for a larger Feature length project. Being visible on www.wearemovingstories.com will help us gravitate towards that goal.
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?
We are in the early part of our festival run and would love to have film festival directors, journalists and buyers reach out as we continue to push down this path.
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
Truly, I would love for people to be blown away and surprised at how much impact the film has for a low budget short film. In the end, like most filmmakers, I want to audience to be happy and want more.
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?
When will the feature film version be made? The short film opens the door to a larger world and the audiences first comment is “I can’t wait until this is made into a feature”.
Would you like to add anything else?
This was one of the rare experiences in making movies that everyone involved in THE SILVER are friends and at the highest talent level in the business. From our lead Lauren Palleschi, who is a star talent and a beautiful person, to Simon England behind the camera, Jaime Swettenham creating our aliens, Mike Noble and his ship design , Michael Crane with an epic score and, of course, to finish at Skywalker Sound with Jeremy Bowker adding amazing sound design and mixing at Skywalker Ranch. I couldn’t be happier. It’s truly a dream come true and we are all ready to do it again.
What other projects are the key creatives developing or working on now?
We are currently in pre-production on a sci-fi/horror feature film to be shot in Cyprus in 2019.
