Culver City Film Festival 2018 - Only Us
Young romantics Elia and Eddie are living the fantasy of their love – until they see the reality of their lies.
Interview with Writer/Director/Producer Eddie Brakha
Congratulations! Why did you make your film?
Thank you so much, it means a lot. I made this film because I was really intrigued by the idea of our curated realities. We live in a space and time where we seemingly control the reality we choose to see. Everything from what we see, what we hear, and how we experience it. This film is an embodiment of this culture. The characters in the film are living this artificial sense of reality, choosing to see and hear only what they want. However when we are brought back to reality and have to face the shortcomings of this mentality, can we in fact accept the truth?
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development?
The script and film is such a malleable entity. The beauty of working on this film was working with so many great artists and contributors along the way. Every time a new mind got involved- the film just became more and more authentic. I think that might be one of the coolest experiences. You have this piece in your head for so long – I mean, everything lives there – the way the characters look, sound, behave…but then when the crew and actors come on board, each of them take your initial vision and give it breathe and blood. It comes alive. Being receptive and open was key for me to really hone in on the sincerity and feel of the world we were trying to craft.
What type of feedback have you received so far?
The feedback and support has really been special. Being able to be in rooms after people watch the film and hear them hold a dialogue about the characters and story as if these characters in the film were real life human beings was kind of surreal. Really loved that feeling.
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
I would really love to have my film reach a greater audience, and actually get to share a conversation with more audience members. Beyond that, to be able to share my impetus for making this film and the general movie making experience – I think this is what this process is all about. On top of that, to be able to make the cinematic experience more interactive would be awesome.
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?
If I were able to have more distributors and media outlets to show my short it would really help get this film out there. Right now, I’ve only exhibited this film in the film festival circuit, and not everyone attends festivals, especially the younger audiences, who this film would really resonate with.
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
This film creates a unique cinematic perspective – being able to show the whole story through a single perspective that I think many of us in the world are now accustom to really puts the audience in a different chair. I would like to share this experience with others.
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?
Do you live in reality or is it a curated reality?
What other projects are the key creatives developing or working on now?
I just wrote a feature film that I am looking to direct. I am now in stage of attaching talent and funding to bring this unique, true story to life.
