3100: Run and Become
An uplifting, intimate portrait of endurance runners who push themselves to the edge of physical and mental collapse, as they endeavor to challenge the boundaries of impossibility.
Interview with Producer Tanya Meillier
Congratulations! why did you make your film?
Ostensibly, this is a film about running. But if you look deeper you see that it is really a film about people who are trying to achieve seemingly impossible things and how they succeed or fail in those efforts. I find that to be a very inspirational topic and that notion is a universal thread in all the films I have made.
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
You should watch this movie to inspire yourself to go beyond what you think is possible.
How do personal and universal themes work in your film?
There comes a time in everyone’s life when they are trying to improve themselves and they reach a point where sheer willpower alone is insufficient. So it is only by tapping in to a heretofore unknown capacity such as with the power of meditation, or a belief in a higher power, they can continue to progress.
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development?
The characters we met shaped the film that it became. It was their voices and their stories that shaped it more than us.
What type of feedback have you received so far?
There has been a tremendous outpouring of love for the film from runners, fitness gurus and folks whose lives revolve around a spiritual path.
Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?
We’ve been surprised by the emotional reaction of many audience members to the struggles our characters face, particularly to the plight of the San Bushmen of the Kalahari who are fighting to preserve what’s left of their ancient way of life.
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
Outreach to a larger film community and support for our digital release.
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?
We are about to launch digitally and getting journalists to review the film would be a huge help.
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
I would love for people to walk away from the film feeling inspired to go out and step beyond their comfort zone. That could be a small action or a life changing one but we need to push ourselves beyond what is immediately in front of us.
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?
Is there any limit to personal achievement?
Would you like to add anything else?
Go watch the movie!
What other projects are the key creatives developing or working on now?
The producers of 3100: Run and Become are currently in post production on a film exploring Native American food sovereignty titled “Gather”.
