Chandler International Film Festival - I Am
I AM is an experimental art short targeting mental instability derived from the suppression of one’s identity. A businessman portrays a visual metaphor of his defeat by societal politics.
Interview with Writer/Director/Producer Hira Vin
Congratulations! Why did you make your film?
To offer a different perception on an age-old controversial topic through an experimental cinematic form.
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
This film offers a look into an overlooked struggle many people often neglect to acknowledge or heed. Anyone who has battled with any form of self identity may connect with this film, or anyone who knows of such individuals could fathom through this piece.
How do personal and universal themes work in your film?
The theme is purely identity. The film expresses an internal violence triggered by social politics, self inflicted by the victim in an effort to shield themselves from judgment, however it later proves to be more harmful than defensive.
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development
The message and intent never evolved or changed, neither did the detailed imagery shot in this piece, however, the film was initially set up to be completely shot in a forest and a lake, due to some time framed restrictions we were then made to shoot the film completely inside.
What type of feedback have you received so far?
So far we’ve won a total of five awards (including Chandler’s Film Festival) for best experimental! A very humbling acknowledgment that we’ll forever remember! In terms of audience, we’ve received many introspective and perceptive outlooks on the film. As it is an art, we were prepared to hear many different views and interpretations of our work!
Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?
There were some cases where audience members would take the film into a completely different approach, and yet it would surprise me further that each interpretation related in some way as to how I view life in general.
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
To have more light shine on this film as a statement of a forward moving generation!
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?
We’d love to have anyone and everyone to support our heartfelt message to promote self love and to walk the path to diminish judgment on individuality!
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
I’d hope that this film can reach even the most ignorant of souls. To at least challenge everyone to be more introspective and to also be curious about this style of cinema.
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?
“What does this film symbolize?”
Would you like to add anything else?
Thank you for taking the time to watch my personal expression of identity, and thank you for reading!
What other projects are the key creatives developing or working on now?
Every lovely person involved in this project have swiftly gone on to film more projects! From what I’ve heard, each and every one are either working on television commercials, and T.V shows like Riverdale, Arrow, Flash, and even features that aren’t allowed be to announced yet!
I personally am currently finishing up another short (thriller), developing two features and many more!
