Woods Hole Film Festival - Quaker Oaths
What would happen if everyone from your wedding had to sign off on your divorce?
Interview with Writer/Director/Producer Louisiana Kreutz
Main still: Fede Rangel and Alex Dobrenko as Emily and Joe.
Congratulations! Why did you make your film?
Thank you! I made Quaker Oaths because it was an idea I had over seven years ago, and no matter how silly it seemed, I couldn’t stop thinking about how great it would be to make it.
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
It’s an old-fashioned, good-natured comedy that speaks from the heart and has an earnestness to it that audiences respond to.
How do personal and universal themes work in your film?
There are themes of community and of communication in this film. The theme of community is built into the premise of this film: this couple wants to get a divorce but must ask for approval from everyone who came to their wedding first, and that means having to get a lot of unwanted advice and also some unexpected lessons to get to the finish line.
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development?
The structure of the film was set from early on, but our wonderful leads, Alex Dobrenko and Fede Rangel, did a lot of improv within the individual scenes that lead to some of our funniest moments.
What type of feedback have you received so far?
We’ve had great feedback! Live audiences have received the film so well - lots of laughs in all the right places, and people seem genuinely moved by the end of it.
Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?
Maybe not…
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
We want as many people as possible to see the film!
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?
We have been in festivals for the last ten months - it’s been a great success that way and we are certainly open to playing more festivals. That said, we are also ready to move into the next stage - putting Quaker Oaths out there on a digital platform so that it’s more readily available. We have a distributor now and will be rolling it out very soon on Flix Premiere. Once that happens, we are hoping to get as much press about it as possible!
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
I always listen for the laughs during the screenings, but maybe more importantly, I love it when people feel moved by the story.
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?
Should the couple stay together??
What other projects are the key creatives developing or working on now?
I am working on a new low budget indie about dinosaurs. (Really).
Interview: July 2017
