Paternoster Square
One afternoon in Paternoster square.
Interview with Director Samuel Galloway
Congratulations! Why are you making your film?
Making films in London is really hard, so this was an opportunity to work with new people, and adapt to a hybrid style of film making.
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
I imagine you've emerged from your dark apartment, where you have been in a clickhole for the last four hours. Seeing this film in a communal picture house will be good for you. You need to get out more and meet new people, maybe talk to them afterward about the film.
How do personal and universal themes work in your film?
I think we all feel a little bit broken, or small sometimes and the arc of this piece aims to create a sense of solidarity in a big chaotic world.
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development?
Using an improvisational format means rolling with what happens on the day, so we really didn't know what we were going to get until the day. But we're very happy with the shape it took.
What type of feedback have you received so far?
People seem to like the understated simplicity, and reading into the situation without any context.
Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?
Only the legs of the project, it was very very small but it seems to have gathered steam. First idea best idea.
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
We are starting our festival run soon so we are looking forward to spreading the word about our film.
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?
Mainly film festivals, but we have heard that it might fit in well in an art gallery.
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
I'd like it to get people talking, it's my first attempt at something more sophisticated than straight narrative, so I'm looking forward to the audiences interpretation.
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?
I don't want to give that away!
Would you like to add anything else?
If anyone's making projects in London I'd love to connect and talk about collaborating over here.
What projects are the key creatives developing or working on now?
Most of us are in post for my first feature film Mutt.
Interview: July 2017
