IFS Film Festival - Link St.
A Middle Eastern girl is trying to find comfort in a city where she feels she doesn’t belong.
Interview with Writer/Director/Producer Rachel Meguerdijian
Congratulations! Why did you make your film?
I have a passion for movies and art. I made my film for the same reason I do all my films. Making films provide a unique ability to convey my perspective of things that we encounter in our lives.
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
This film directly reflects the emotional journey a person goes through when arriving to a new environment. It allows those who lived it to relate to it. For those who haven’t, it will make them realize the difficulties a newcomer will have to face.
How do personal and universal themes work in your film?
On a personal theme, the film reveals how a girl of different culture is facing a culture setback in her new town. Many people are not aware of such challenges people go through. This is where it is linked with the universal theme. It is an opportunity for the people to interact with one another and provide better hospitality.
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development?
The script and film were very clear in my mind. The sequences and aspects were perfectly set to reflect my ideas. Then, while filming, I realized that we are a multicultural crew and this can benefit the film. This is where the script got a little flexible. It definitely added a natural genuine touch to the film.
What type of feedback have you received so far?
The shooting aspect and the storyline made it interesting for those who have seen my film. The way the audience react during the film is what touched me the most since they were able to relate to it and feel involved in the story.
Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?
Thankfully, the feedback has motivated me to keep doing what I do. This also challenges me to get even more creative for the movies to come. I was surprised that a big audience enjoyed my film. My plan it to keep raising the bar.
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
Having my film more visible will help me spread messages that I transmit through movies. This applies also to future projects that I will work on to reach a point where an audience would be waiting for new releases.
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?
Communicating thoughts always improves the work and eventually will amplify the film’s message. Anyone who thinks they can add value to this film are welcome.
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
I hope this film will impact everyone and make them think that we should support one another. No one knows what the other person is going through. If each person provides a little empathy to the other, we would be in a better place. Small things can make a big difference to another.
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?
Do we offer enough hospitality through help and support to make the world a better place?
Would you like to add anything else?
For people who would like to share their thoughts or feedback, feel free to leave your comments where you saw the film or contact me.
What are the key creatives developing or working on now?
I am at the pre-production phase of an upcoming Music Video Trilogy. It is very exciting to work on it and see the audience’s feedback when it will go on the big screen.
