interview with Director/Producer Simone Bartesaghi

Congratulations! Why did you make your film?

I love the slice of life approach that the writer used to tell this emotional story. I loved the surprises of the plot, the depth of the characters and the quality of the writing.

Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?

Will immerse you in the world of these two characters and in a few minutes they’ll share a roller coaster of emotions.

How do personal and universal themes work in your film?

The story is clearly character driven and the universal need to connect, to find strength in each other is clearly the theme of the story

How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development?

The writer was very good since the first draft in depicting the scenario and the dialogue. The script changed very little.

What type of feedback have you received so far?

Most of the compliments are about the story, the dialogue, the performance and the cinematography. Some would like to see more as if the slice of life approach didn’t provide enough for their experience

What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?

Reach out a broader audience and maybe attract the attention of a distributor

Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?

Sales Agents and Distributors.

What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?

It’s a small story of ordinary people. I’d love the audience to recognize the universal need for each other that this story emphasize. And maybe, for someone that is living a similar situation, to reach out to the ones that he/she is separate from.

What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?

If you can save the world but in order to do that you’ll have to kill a man or a puppy, which one would you choose?

Would you like to add anything else?

I think that the writer, Elisa Manzini, wrote a terrific script. Given the small amount of time (one day) the art department and the cinematographer were able to create a set from scratch that looks and feels authentic. The actors, Glenn Morshower and Whitney Palmer, did a terrific job. The sound designer and music composer created a sound that is the first thing that pulls you into this world.

What are the key creatives developing or working on now?

The same team (Producer, Writer, Director and Cinematographer) is working on the development of a feature film called “IT HITS YOU WHEN YOU KNOW IT” written by Elisa Manzini.

WRITER / ELISA MANZINI: an Italian writer who won a Comedy Central writing competition for young talent and began working as a writer on the TV show "Spam.” She is a member of the Actors Studio West, P/D Unit (under the leadership of Mark Rydell and Martin Landau).

DIRECTOR/PRODUCER: Simone Bartesaghi: an Italian director living in LA who has won several international prizes with his shorts and features both as director and screenwriter.
