Frozen River Film Festival - 50 Feet from Syria

February 20, 2017 by Carmela Baranowska

One doctor, Two weeks, A thousand stitches.

Interview with Director/Producer Skye Fitzgerald

Congratulations! Why did you make your film?

To heighten awareness in the US about the depth of civilian suffering occurring due to the conflict in Syria.

50 Feet from Syria

Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?

The film serves as a snapshot in time of the plight of refugees displaced by the Syrian uprising and indelibly communicates the human cost of one of the most brutal, dehumanizing conflicts in modern history that continues to destroy and displace millions of lives.

How do personal and universal themes work in your film?

We pursue the universal themes of loss and suffering by bearing witness to personal and first-hand accounts throughout the film.

50 Feet from Syria

What type of feedback have you received so far?

“…visually brutal…a harrowing package.” – VARIETY

"...important, powerful and timely."  – CRAVE TV

“…a powerful look into devastated Syrian lives.” – THRU MAGAZINE

"...a superb example of visual storytelling done well." – DOCUMENTARY DRIVE

“…approaches its subject matter with a stark and unadorned humanitarianism.” – AL JADID

“I was devastated.” – OREGON PUBLIC BROADCASTING

50 Feet from Syria

Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?

We were unable to land an A festival launch. C'est la vie.

What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?

It's had a wonderful reception at festivals and SVOD.

What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?

Why do so many Americans believe Syrian refugees are terrorists?

Would you like to add anything else?

Please see: www.spinfilm.org
