Princess Bride: A Watchman’s Tale

A fleeing Prince finds himself on a dangerous quest to rescue the Princess Bride and her beautiful maidens, held captive atop Mt. Arbel.

Interview with Director/Producer Jeremiah Kaufman

Congratulations! Why did you make your film?

PRINCESS BRIDE is a thoughtful bluesy scat song off Jeremiah’s full length self-titled CD.  I wanted to produce a meaningful music video from one of the most artful songs off the album.  Here’s a short sample, “I ascertained my token, which was spoke into my being, it broke into my spirit and my eyes started seeing, my precious prize Princess Bride on the horizon, the mountains bowing down at the sound as I ride in . . .”

Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?

PRINCESS BRIDE is a unique song, that makes you want to listen closely to the lyrics.  It captures snapshots of Medieval times, timeless epics like Ivanhoe or Robin Hood.  Once again, I’ve used a storyline to represent and explore a song.  Perhaps I’m ready to breakout as a filmmaker.

How do personal and universal themes work in your film?

PRINCESS BRIDE is part of my journey to find True Love.  Surrendering to my Creator all things, even a Bride.  I wrote this song when I was down and out.  Heartbroken.  Like David in the cave.  Maybe G-d feels the same, when pursuing us . . .

Princess Bride:  A Watchman’s Tale

How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development and production?

The script’s basic concept held up all the way.  That is, how to find and know when my Prince or Princess arrives.  In post-production we imported some stock footage of exotic animals to match the colorful lyrics.

What type of feedback have you received so far?

We have received great feedback.  In pre-production we queried our fans to see which of our songs they would like to see made into a music video.  PRINCESS BRIDE overwhelmingly came out on top.  And actually we agree!

Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?

A lot of the feedback we hear, agrees with our feelings about PRINCESS BRIDE.  It’s heart stirring and true to some mystical ideal that the quest for True Love invokes.

What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?

PRINCESS BRIDE is the fifth music video we Produced and the third in our Watchman series set in Israel.  We want to continue to build upon our base of fans and move together into our new exploration of short film-making and then feature films. We’ve said before that we intend to be in the movie business for the long haul.  We try to make meaningful enjoyable movies and are always seeking an audience to share the experience.

Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?

We welcome any help, and partnerships for our launch into short film-making!

Princess Bride:  A Watchman’s Tale

What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?

We want people to watch PRINCESS BRIDE and say, Yeah, the music video can be more than a few images of the artist accompanying his song.  It is a mini-movie unto itself, perhaps with a three-act structure.  With story arc and a character arc that flows in the stream of one song, the song seemingly written for the purpose of enhancing the movie.  Though in many cases the music video, like PRINCESS BRIDE, is written after the song is produced.

What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?

Which of the Princesses will be rescued by the Prince?  A Universal question.

Would you like to add anything else?

The visuals in this film are stunning!  Don’t miss it.

What are the key creatives developing or working on now?

We just shot our first short film in Israel called, THE LOST ARK, a 60’s period film.  The concept is a quest, by students, to find the missing Ark of the Covenant.  We shot at an archaeological site and also a cave in Jerusalem. The period costuming, props, and slang made this project a “blast” to produce and should be “groovy” to watch.  We want to take this Proof-of-Concept short and develop it into our first feature film.

Interview: January 2017
