The Neon Spectrum
After a lonely English girl learns of a hidden letter from her estranged father, she journeys to Australia in search of answers and the man who can give them to her.
Interview with Writer/Director/Producer Lee Galea
Congratulations! Why did you make your film?
It has been a long dream of mine to adapt The Wizard of Oz into a modern Australian film.
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
If you're looking for a nice film about friendship that will entertain you then watch this film.
How do personal and universal themes work in your film?
Friends becoming family is one of the biggest themes. I have many close friends who are like family to me and I think anyone can relate to that.

How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development?
At one stage the film was set in the future and we had some strange things like acid rain and a female drug lord ruling Melbourne and trying to kill our main character Gale.
What type of feedback have you received so far?
Some have loved how likeable all the characters are and how nice the film is. Others enjoy the landscape of Melbourne and others find the hidden nods to anything Wizard of Oz exciting.
Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?
Definitely surprised us. They found it really funny and they cried more then I had anticipated. So I guess they felt a connection to the film.
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
I hope that I can find a fan base for this film. It's still a very unknown, so anyway to reach film lovers and OZ fans is a bonus.

Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?
Journalists, to help me get the word out.
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
I would love for it to inspire young Aussie filmmakers to take a gamble and make more feature films.
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?
I guess, how many Wizard of Oz references can you spot? There are so many and even ones from the other OZ films.
Would you like to add anything else?
This is the first feature film for Stephanie, Josh and Trevor. Also, Stephanie and Trevor had never acting in front of a camera before this film.

What other projects are the key creatives developing or working on now?
I just finished co-writing my next film Filterphonic, a musical drama, which I plan to direct mid 2018.
Interview: December 2017
