Culver City Film Festival - Wireless
When two siblings get trapped in the house without electricity, we see the result of Gen Z without technology.
Interview with Writer/Director/Producer Tayo Odesanya
Congratulations! Why did you make your film?
Honestly, I thought it was just a fun story. I feel like most people at the moment are only interested in telling stories that are quite heavy and I wanted to create something that was a bit more light hearted.
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
You should watch the film because it speaks to the truths about living in today's society and hopefully it will give you a few laughs too.
How do personal and universal themes work in your film?
It's funny actually, this particular incident happened to myself and my brother a year or two ago, so that's what inspired the story. The idea of being without electricity has been done before but I think pushed to the extreme. This is just a glimpse into what I believe is a more child like, yet realistic reaction.
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development?
With this project I noticed that my scripts tended to change slightly every time I worked with a new artist. Firstly, when I started working with the storyboard artist, going through the images there were things we changed once we saw the images. Similar to when I worked with some of the voice over artist some of the dialogue changed. I think the script changed the most when I brought it to the animator.
What type of feedback have you received so far?
So far the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. A lot of people have said it's really relatable. I really think it's just one of those things that you can watch at any age and still get something from it, no matter how small.
Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?
Honestly, I knew it was a universal story but I'm still so surprised at how many adults that approach me saying they can relate. I definitely thought this would be more of a millennial/Generation X crisis.
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
I mean, for a long time now my biggest goal was just to see my first animated film be created. Now that I've done that I hope that as many people can see this film as possible.
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?
At the moment I'd really like to get with some distributors and possibly a producer, as I have plans on turning this film into a short series.
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
If audiences walk out of the theatre smiling, I'm happy. I hope that they would do so with at least the thought of lessening their reliance on technology.
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?
When was the last time you played a board game?
Would you like to add anything else?
I just want to say a huge thank you to the Culver City Film Festival and We Are Moving Stories for highlighting my work. It really means a lot! And thank you to all of my friends and family for you’re support.
Also, If you haven't already please check out my other films:

What other projects are the key creatives developing or working on now?
I'm currently in development for a web series we hope to be in production in the summer of 2018. I'm also planning my next short film, it's a bit darker than the pieces I've created so far but I like variety.
December 2017
