High Falls Film Festival - Tongue In Cheek
the otherization, the disembodiment, and the dysmorphia of the female form.
Interview with Director Palwasha Azimi
Congratulations! Why did you make your film?
Thank you! I made this film as part of a requirement for my graduate class. The idea was heavily influenced by hip-hop music videos and its culture.
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
This film is a short journey through the absurdity of what is happening around us.
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development?
The major shots were developed before production but the transitioning was done very much during the production process.
What type of feedback have you received so far?
Very minimal feedback thus far. People have very much appreciated the film. I hope to get more feedback, though.
Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?
No, not really. If anything, it has encouraged me.
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
I hope that this will bring more attention to student filmmakers as well as women filmmakers.
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?
I am not sure. I feel really new to all of this. The High Falls Festival is only the second festival I have ever submitted to and been accepted. I would love for more festivals to involve women filmmakers.
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
I would love for this film to invoke feelings about things may seem too taboo to talk about but must be talked about.
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?
Why is this absurdity the norm?
What other projects are the key creatives developing or working on now?
Currently, I am working on a longer film about periods and the feelings , very similar in the style of TONGUE IN CHEEK.
Interview: November 2017
