Waimea Ocean Film Festival - Peninsula Mitre
The Gauchos del Mar brothers perform an unprecedented expedition by foot with 35kgs+ on their backs during 53 days on the easternmost tip of Argentina's Tierra del Fuego Province, a pristine area where no one lives. The brothers have the goal of surfing a world-class wave never ridden before at the Cape San Diego Lighthouse, the most easterly point.
Interview with Director/Producer: Joaquin and Julian Azulay (Gauchos del mar)

Congratulations! Why did you make your film?
Because we wanted to search for waves in an unknown region of the world and we decided to document it as a register to show people why it is so important to conserve this untouched places.
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
To get to know an amazing place in the most eastern tip of Tierra del Fuego, where nobody lives, where there are no roads and no communication. And it is a place that needs to be protected for future generations to enjoy it as wild as it is now.
How do personal and universal themes work in your film?
Personal and universal themes in our film are wound tight together, we want to conserve Peninsula Mitre so more people can enjoy this wild area. With the film we are communicating this goal, but there are lots of people working in the last 20 years ago on this project who have still not succeeded.
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development and production?
It evolved from a raw surf expedition into a super strong surf expedition that has the aim to conserve 790,000 wild acres. It evolved this way as we had the chance to spend 53 days out there and this way you end up noticing the importance for it to remain this way.
What type of feedback have you received so far?
Since we started touring with the film we received really nice feedback from people who watched it, some enjoy more the team spirit, others enjoy the wild area, others the strength that we put in the expedition itself and other people enjoy the people that lived there… It is wide open for people to enjoy it in a personal way.
Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?
It is nice to receive good comments from your work and in this case also from a really tough expedition.
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
More people to watch the film and spread the conservationism message.
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?
More journalists and buyers.
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
The plan is to push the local government from Tierra del Fuego to creat a Natural Protected Area in Peninsula Mitre.
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film?
What is progress nowadays? Conserve 790,000 acres or make a road and break a perfect natural ecosystem?
Would you like to add anything else?
Our webpage so people can watch our 2 previous films too: www.gauchosdelmar.com and the ones that want to follow our project can do so at the webpage or @gauchosdelmar
