Carmela Recommends: Two Films By Koraly Dimitriadis
Koraly Dimitriadis's voice is brave and honest. She is an opinion writer, poet, performer, actor, theatre maker, film maker. Dimitriadis belongs to a new generation of Australian filmmakers unafraid to push boundaries and tell it as it is.
In Best Friend Dimimitriadis asks: What happens when a marriage steeped in the expectation, rigidity and pressures of migrant culture, disintegrates while in Koraly: A Mockumentary she writes: 'How impossible it is for a woman from an ethnic background to fight through not only cultural barriers, and in my case being a single parent, to fight through the gatekeepers of the arts world, to make a TV show. It is practically impossible so if it does happen it’s a miracle.'
