Barefoot Catwalk
A group of red earth raised young Indigenous Australian women make the journey from isolated communities to the spotlights of the catwalk.
Current Status: In development.
Length: 30 minutes
Director: Jub Clarke
Producer: Jodie Bell
Why do you want to make this film?
To encourage positive attitudes towards Indigenous youth by representing young Indigenous women in an inspirational and contemporary setting.
Why is the film called Barefoot Catwalk?
The personal and professional development program includes modelling aspects with girls from some of Australia’s most remote communities participating. For many of these young women this is the first time they have worn heels or dresses or even wore makeup. They train for the catwalk with no shoes and the film title recognises all these aspects.
Whose story will you follow?
We follow the journeys of 6 of the 48 entrants before, during and after they take part in the Kimberley Girl Program that is the feature of Barefoot Catwalk.
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on this platform?
What we are wanting to achieve with this film by having it on a more visible platform is to be sharing our story and gaining further investment.
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message and audience?
For this film to move forward and be able to get the message across to our audience, we would need to have our Investors and Distributors on the board with us.
What type of impact would you like this film to have in Broome, Australia and internationally?
Barefoot Catwalk is to inspire all young women to be confident, dream big and achieve what they want in life, whilst particularly encouraging marginalised groups.
Lastly, what’s a key question that will help spark a debate about this issue and film?
How do you perceive young Indigenous Australians?
