Spill
“In the sandpit you can lose your marbles, what matters though is how you get them back!”
Interview with Writer/Director Aaron Ellis
Congratulations! Why did you make your film?
We made Spill because it is a true story that resonated with us greatly. The challenge of working with an all child cast was a daunting prospect, but we were blessed with the cast we were able to find, and all the kids gave us 110%.
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
Spill is a feel good adventure story with an all child cast and a story that will keep you guessing until the very end.
How do personal and universal themes work in your film?
Spill is a tale about believing in yourself when you're against the ropes, and relying on your wits against a formidable opponent.
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development and production?
Very little changes were made on the journey of making this film, even the drone shot was in the original script. The drone shot was the single largest application ever received in the state of Victoria and possibly Australia wide, and the only one that involved children.
What type of feedback have you received so far?
We have been chuffed by the amount of positive feedback Spill has received on a local and international level.
Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?
All feedback has been fantastic, we have had the opportunity to screen at several world renowned Oscar Accredited Film Festivals and met many great people on our journey.
What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
Getting Spill involved with the website is something that we are looking forward to learning more about. The opportunity to gain publicity and word of mouth about our films is something we are very excited about.
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?
We are open to hearing from and dealing with any of the above.
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
We would love Spill to open up communication channels between young people and adults about bullying.
What’s a key question that will help spark a debate or begin a conversation about this film.
We hope this film sparks conversation about all forms of bullying.
What are the key creatives developing or working on now?
We have several projects in various stages of development.
Interview: November 2016
